Renewing the Retirement KITAS, and the path to KITAP

The standard permit is renewed every year: re-submit your documents, pay the fees, stay compliant. A move to permanent stay is possible in principle, but not automatic.

KITAS vs KITAP

From temporary to permanent stay

The KITAS is a temporary stay permit; the KITAP is a permanent one. Many retirees ask about moving from one to the other, but official sources do not confirm an automatic progression. A KITAP generally needs a longer period of residence under a KITAS plus extra documents and financial requirements.

  • KITAS: temporary, renewed annually
  • KITAP: permanent stay permit
  • No confirmed automatic path from retirement KITAS
  • Ask an immigration lawyer before you plan on it
